Welcome to Delafield Woods, a private site consisting of 12 beautiful acres that will become the setting for five luxury homes in the heart of the coastal community of Darien.
Tucked away on a private lane off of Locust Hill Road, the Delafield Woods estates are in a prime in-town location, walking distance to the center of town, with great dining options, trendy boutiques, and two neighborhood train stations. Great care was taken to create these unique home sites by maintaining the integrity of the natural topography and using its wooded areas, large rock outcroppings, and intricate waterways. These distinctively developed parcels are ready for building and have been carefully cleared while preserving and protecting their rural character and the lush natural privacy between sites.
Just bring your plans, or ask us for ours. There are currently four lots, ranging in size from 1.2 to 1.4 acres to choose from. The long winding driveway that creates a private cul-de-sac for these homes has already been paved. A gorgeous, sweeping, native stone wall adorns both sides of the drive, creating a naturally elegant approach. The sewer and city water are hooked up and electric conduits have been placed on all properties along with telephone and cable connections. The sites have been carefully graded and developed so that the house location will nestle into its surroundings, reducing any further need to clear mature plantings. These four remaining properties are adjacent to a six-plus-acre permanent preserve, which enhances the private serene setting.
Darien is located on Connecticut’s ‘Gold Coast’ in Fairfield County, one of the wealthiest and most coveted areas in the tri-state region. It is one of the most affluent towns in the United States and was rated one of the best places to live in the country by CNN. Situated between the small cities of Norwalk and Stamford, the town is a bedroom community with relatively few office buildings.
The town offers several beautiful parks such as Tilley Pond Park and Cherry Lawn Park, as well as two beaches on Long Island Sound, Weed Beach and Pear Tree Point Beach. Darien also boasts many country clubs, hunt clubs, and yacht clubs. These include the prestigious Country Club of Darien, Wee Burn Country Club, Ox Ridge Hunt Club, the Darien Boat Club, and the Noroton Yacht Club, among others. More local attractions include Scott Cove, Long Neck Point, Five Mile River, Noroton River, Westcott Cove, and the Maritime Aquarium. Many residents work in New York City and commute via two Metro North railroad stations – Noroton Heights and Darien – to Grand Central Terminal in less than an hour.
Delafield Woods homes will be part of the Delafield Island Association, a longstanding private waterfront community within the town of Darien. Both Delafield Woods and the Delafield Island Association take their name from the Delafields, a well-known and affluent New England family of physicians. Between 1859 and 1865, Dr. Edward Delafield assembled a 154-acre tract of land in Darien, Connecticut called Delafield Farm. After the death of Francis, the property was looked after by his spinster sister Emma Harriot Delafield and when she died in 1921, the property then went to the grandson Edward Henry Delafield. After the 1929 stock market crash, Edward partitioned and parceled off the land over the ensuing years and changed the name to Delafield Island.
Along with many other benefits, the Association owns and maintains a floating dock on Scott’s Cove, which overlooks the beautiful Long Island Sound, for use by the residents and their guests. What makes this opportunity so unique is that this private oasis of homes is within walking distance to Darien town center and all its amenities: shopping, movie theater, restaurants and easy commuting by car or train. The perfect blend of coastal town and country living!
