Take a Walk in Darien, CT ‘s Downtown Park – Tilly Pond Park

Many towns have lovely downtown areas chock full of shopping, restaurants and fun things to do. Darien, CT is one of those towns, but has one highlight that others do not – a downtown park. Tilly Pond Park is tucked just behind the Darien Train Station, between West Avenue, Lakeside Avenue and Sedgwick Avenue. It is the perfect place for stroll with your dog or whomever you’d like to take with you. My dog, Dixie, is my walking partner of choice. Being residents of a downtown neighborhood, Tilly Pond Park is the logical walking spot for Dixie and me, but also one of our favorites. The pond lies in the center of the park, surrounded by walkways, park benches and a smattering of grassy areas (sometimes snowy) prime for picnics, a game of Frisbee or general merriment. The main walkway is lined with lamp posts for evening walks and good spots to sniff (in Dixie’s case). The well recognized, stone pavilion has a fireplace for colder seasons and provides shade in warmer seasons.

During those warmer seasons you may find any number of exciting events taking place at Tilly Pond Park. Darien’s “Star Gazing” Nights offer movies under the stars. The Tilly Pond Boat Race invites kids to build their own sailboat and race to victory! And the annual Food Fair raises funds for Post 53 - Darien’s nationally recognized ambulance service staffed primarily by teens. Whether it be winter, spring, summer or fall, you’ll enjoy the views, charm and convenience of Darien’s downtown park.
